Rangers v Liverpool (22/12/81)

Match: Friendly, at Ibrox.

Glasgow Rangers – Liverpool 0-2 (0-0).

Attendance: 35,000.

Referee: Mr. Alan Ferguson.

Liverpool gave a 35,000 crowd at Ibrox Park last a football feast in their friendly match with Rangers to mark the official opening of the Glasgow club’s new North Stand. A 2-0 defeat flattered Rangers. Had Liverpool taken the chances they built up, their winning margin would have been wider. The Reds were so much on top that Jimmy Stewart, the Rangers goalkeeper, was the busiest player on the field. Liverpool had team work down to a fine art. Every department of the side dove-tailed in a manner that was a sheer delight. Some of Bruce Grobbelaar’s saves were spectacular.” (Liverpool Echo: December 23, 1981)
