Rangers were taken to a replay by St Johnstone before they won through 4-0 in a Scottish Cup tie at Parkhead. The first tie played on the 15th April 1989 ended in a dull 0-0 draw but the replay three days later ended in a convincing win. Mark Walters scored an early goal and Gary Stevens volleyed in a second just before half-time.
