Notes: On 20th December 1999 Paul Ritchie (Heart of Midlothian) joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for three months. Bolton wanted to extend it but Hearts refused the request. However, the clubs did mutually agree on a permanent transfer and on 22nd March 2000 Ritchie moved from the Edinburgh club to Bolton signing a short-term contract until 17th May 2000 inclusive. He was then free under the Bosman ruling and left Wanderers. On 27th January 2000 Allan Johnston (Sunderland) joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for a month. This was then extended until at least the Championship play-off match on 17th May 2000. A Sunderland source has confirmed his understanding that the loan period ended on that date.
